1.34. Operation of the trailer

At the movement with the trailer load of the car, in comparison with the usual mode of the movement, increases. Also requirements to the driver raise.

At towage of the trailer dynamic qualities of the car strongly change. In particular ability to overcoming rises, efficiency of dispersal and braking, and also maneuverability and stability on turns worsens.

The mode and speed of the movement have to be chosen according to the specified changes.

Specifications

The factory complete set of the car the traction coupling device provides the 13-contact plug socket. In the presence on the trailer of a 7-contact plug fork it is possible to use the cable adapter which is available on HUNDRED Audis.

Service regulations

The stabilizing devices reduce fluctuations of the trailer of rather cross axis and its wagging. Therefore we recommend to use these devices (especially with a big mass of the trailer). The stabilizing devices are available on HUNDRED Audis, and their installation can be executed in the same place.

Do not exceed the admissible maximum mass of the towed freight at all, address Specifications.

With a mass of the towed freight specified in Specifications it is possible to overcome rises with bias size to 8 – 12%. If the most admissible mass of the road train is not used completely, then it is possible to overcome rises with the bigger size of a bias.

Use the most admissible weight falling on a spherical head of the traction coupling device from a dyshl of the trailer perhaps more fully, but do not exceed, address Specifications.

Standard values of mass of the towed freight are valid only at the height up to 1000 m above sea level (NN). With increase in height the razryazhennost of air raises and respectively the engine capacity and as a result ability to breaching of rises decreases. Therefore reduce the mass of the road train by 10% through each 1000 m of rise.

Taking into account the admissible maximum mass of the towed freight and the loading falling on the traction coupling device distribute baggage so that the heaviest objects settled down whenever possible closer to its axis. Besides, fix freight not to allow its shift at the movement.

The data on mass of the towed freight and the loading falling on the traction coupling device specified in the name plate of the trailer are its control sizes. Passport data which can be below these sizes can be found in documentation of the car or in this manual.

Establish pressure in car tires corresponding to its full loading. At the same time check also pressure of tires of the trailer.

Removable traction coupling device *

The removable spherical head of the traction coupling device is in a niche of a spare wheel.

For installation / dismantle of a spherical head enough normal efforts of hands.

ATTENTION

Never use for installation / dismantle of a spherical head supportive applications or tools since it is possible to damage the lock mechanism therefore reliable operation of the traction coupling device will not be guaranteed.
Modification of a design of a spherical head and other components of the traction coupling device, and also their repair is not allowed.

Before each trip check correctness of fixing of a spherical head.
Never deblock a spherical head at the attached trailer.
At the movement without trailer remove a spherical head and establish a cap in a fixing pipe.
After that lay the traction coupling device in a niche of a spare wheel.
When cleaning the car the steam-ejecting pump remove a spherical head and establish a cap in a fixing pipe.



Installation of a spherical head


From the fixing pipe (1) located under a bumper take a cap (2).

Check probability of pollution of a fixing pipe and if necessary clean it.
ATTENTION

Surely remove pollution. Otherwise under certain circumstances the spherical head will reliably not be fixed in a fixing pipe!




Open a luggage carrier and from a niche of a spare wheel take a spherical head.

Check probability of pollution and damage of the case of a spherical head to the place of contact with a fixing pipe (A), and also uncoupling a rychazhka (V) and handles (C).


Mount a spherical head only with a preliminary tightness. Therefore check a tightness of a spherical head.
The preliminary tightness is provided with performance of the following conditions:

The white tag (A) of the handle is in a zone of the red field of the case of a spherical head.

Lock balls (V) are drowned in openings of the case of a spherical head.

The handle that it is well visible visually, is at a certain distance from the case of a spherical head so between the handle and the case of a spherical head there is a gap (C).


In the absence of a tightness of a spherical head the following is necessary:

Insert a key (1) into the handle lock and turn it to the left.

Pull the handle in the specified direction A and turn in the extended situation in the direction B specified by an arrow until fixing splitting a rychazhka (2).
ATTENTION

Operation of a spherical head is not allowed if it is not possible to reach its tightness according to the aforesaid. Address on HUNDRED Audis.




Establish a spherical head with a tightness in a fixing pipe and wring out up in the direction specified by an arrow.
ATTENTION

At installation of a hand should not be in a handle zone – possibly traumatizing!



Process of fixing is carried out automatically. At the same time the click has to be distinctly heard.

Lock a spherical head (turn a key to the right) and take a key.

Control of reliability of fastening


After installation, for the purpose of safety, check correctness of fastening of a spherical head.

Correctness of fastening is provided with performance of the following conditions:

The white tag (A) of the handle is in a zone of the green field of the case of a spherical head.

The handle adjoins to the case of a spherical head. As a result between the handle and the case of a spherical head (shooter) there is no gap.

The spherical head is locked and the key is taken (the handle is not extended).

The spherical head reliably sits in a fixing pipe (check, feats her hand).
ATTENTION

At non-performance of above-mentioned conditions repeat installation.



Even at non-performance of one of conditions there is a danger of accident and operation of the traction coupling device is not allowed.

Plug socket of the trailer



The plug socket for giving of tension on the trailer is behind the buffer.

For connection of a plug fork of the trailer take away in the direction specified by an arrow the handle (A) of the car down.

Dismantle of a spherical head


Insert into the handle lock a key (1).

Unlock a spherical head (turn a key to the left).

Strong hold the case of a spherical head and pull the handle in the direction A specified by an arrow. In conclusion turn the handle in the extended situation against the stop in the direction B specified by an arrow.

Release the handle. It is fixed independently with a tightness.

Lock the handle (turn a key to the right) and take a key.

Lay a spherical head in a niche of a spare wheel.

Take away the plug socket of the car up.
ATTENTION

If the traction coupling device is not operated a long time, then for the purpose of unloading of elements of a spring of a spherical head the lock mechanism has to be released.

For this purpose turn the handle to the left.

At dismantle of a hand should not be in a handle zone – possibly traumatizing!



In a fixing pipe (1) establish a cap (2).
ATTENTION

Surely establish a cap. Otherwise, owing to pollution, there is a probability that the spherical head will reliably not be fixed in a fixing pipe!
