5.1.1. Removal and installation of the fuel pump / sensor of a reserve of fuel

The fuel pump together with the fuel level sensor at petrol engines is in the fuel tank of a reserve. At the AUDI A3 cars with the diesel engine fuel is sucked in by TNVD. Therefore in the fuel tank only the level sensor is located. All-wheel drive cars owing to existence of the driveshaft taking the place have the fuel tank, two-piece. In this case each of two half of the fuel tank has the sensor of level. In the right tank there is an electric fuel pump.

The fuel level sensor consists of a float and a potentiometer. At lowering of the level of fuel falls as well a float. The potentiometer connected with a float increases at the same time sensor resistance. Thus, on the dashboard tension decreases and the index of level of fuel moves in the direction "is empty". At cars with the fuel tank, two-piece, the processor calculates the general reserve of fuel on the basis of signals of both sensors, operating the index of a reserve of fuel on the dashboard.

ATTENTION

At removal of the fuel pump some volume of fuel can flow out. Fuel vapors are poisonous and flammable therefore it is necessary to monitor especially good ventilation of a workplace. Exclude hits of fuel on skin. Use the mittens resistant in relation to fuel. Do not use the dug-out fire. There is a risk of fire! You keep in readiness the fire extinguisher.
Before removal of the fuel pump and sensor of a reserve it is desirable to empty a tank. It is possible to use the radial fan which electric motor is outside an air stream to ventilation of a workplace.

REMOVAL

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative cable (–) of the rechargeable battery at the switched-off ignition.
ATTENTION Thereof information from electronic blocks of memory as, for example, a radio receiver code is erased. Without code the radio receiver can be switched on only by the manufacturer or HUNDRED AUDIS. Therefore get acquainted with materials of the subsection Input of a Code of the Radio Receiver.
2. Cast away a back seat and turn off a cover of the sensor of a reserve of fuel and the fuel pump.
ATTENTION The fuel system is under pressure! Before opening of hose connections put on it a thick rag. Then carefully open a hose and take off pressure. Use at the same time goggles.
	3. Disconnect giving –2– and returnable –1 pipelines, having squeezed for this purpose stoppers on quick disconnect couplings. Close pipelines traffic jams, for example, a bolt with sealant.
4. Rasstykuyte fuel reserve sensor socket / fuel pump.
	5. Turn off a cap nut the special AUDI-3217 tool.
ATTENTION If the specified tool is unavailable, turn off a nut by means of wooden whetstone and easy blows of the hammer. Do not allow formation of sparks at all.
6. Take out the pump block / sensor of a reserve and a sealing ring from an opening of the fuel tank.
7. Merge fuel from the pump block in a tank or the corresponding capacity.
	8. Remove if necessary the fuel reserve sensor. For this purpose release connections of wires-3-and-4-. Raise the screw-driver lock levels-1-and-2-and remove the sensor down.

INSTALLATION

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Insert the sensor into guides on the holder and press before fixing up. Join electric wires on the reserve sensor.
2. Install the pump block in the fuel tank. You watch that at the same time the sensor of the index of a reserve of fuel was not bent. Moisten a sealing ring before installation with fuel.
	3. Check the provision of a flange. The arrow on a cover has to specify in the direction of an arrow on a tank, at the same time address an illustration.
4. Tighten a cap nut the special AUDI-3217 tool, effort of an inhaling 60 N. Mozhno to tighten a cap nut easy blows of the hammer through wooden whetstone.
5. Attach the giving and returnable hoses, at the same time quick disconnect connections have to be recorded. When fastening apply new tape collars. The returnable hose has the blue color giving black. Shooters on a flange specify the direction of the movement of liquid.
6. Join electric connections.
7. Fix a fuel reserve sensor cover.
8. Put into place a back seat.
9. Attach a negative cable (–) to the rechargeable battery.
