The operating movements of the driver are transmitted from a steering wheel through a steering column and the steering mechanism on wheels. A steering column – safety, with adjustment of height within 44 mm and a departure (length) within 50 mm.

The effort which needs to be put to a steering wheel at its rotation especially on the standing car, decreases by means of the hydraulic power steering. The power steering consists of the oil pump, the tank and oil pipelines. The pump is set in motion from the engine through maple a belt. The pump sucks in oil from the tank and gives it under pressure to the case of the valve of management. The case of the valve settles down in the steering mechanism. It is mechanically connected with the steering mechanism and gives oil depending on an angle of rotation of a steering wheel to the corresponding cavity of a hydraulic cylinder. Here oil influences the piston with a gear lath and supports thus movement of a wheel.

In a steering wheel the safety cushion settles down. It represents the put air bag which in case of frontal collision is inflated and, thus, protects the head of the driver and the top part of a trunk from blow about a steering wheel. At frontal blow of the corresponding force by means of the control unit the small charge in the block of a safety cushion ignites and the gases which are formed at the same time inflate an air bag during several milliseconds. This time is enough for damping of the driver's trunk moving forward. Within several seconds after that the safety cushion contracts again since gases come out pillow openings.
ATTENTION

Carrying out welding and leveling works on steering elements is not allowed. Replace the self-stopped nuts with new.
Along with a safety cushion of the driver there is also a safety cushion of the forward passenger and side safety cushions in front and behind. If on the place of the forward passenger in the direction, the return to the movement, the children's seat is established, it is necessary to deactivate a safety cushion of the forward passenger. This work can be performed only HUNDRED AUDIS. Besides, on a door beam, a solar peak or the dashboard on the right side of the car there has to be the corresponding precautionary sign "There Is No Seat for the Child Ahead", otherwise at control by traffic police the driver can be fined.

At the car equipment a side safety cushion apply to seatbacks only the special, resolved by AUDI upholstery.

At removal and installation of the block of a safety cushion

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect a negative cable (–) of the rechargeable battery at the switched-off ignition. Attention: Thereof information from electronic blocks of memory as, for example, a radio receiver code is erased. Without code the radio receiver can be switched on only by the manufacturer or HUNDRED AUDIS. Therefore get acquainted with materials of the subsection Input of a Code of the Radio Receiver.
2. Isolate a negative pole (–) a battery battery room to exclude a possibility of casual contact.
3. Establish wheels directly.
ATTENTION

If the provided remarks are not observed, at further operation it can lead to failure of system of a safety cushion.

General comments

– After electric accession of a safety cushion before connection of the rechargeable battery include ignition, the ignition key in situation "Movement".
– At connection of the rechargeable battery stay in interior of the car of strangers is not allowed.
– After removal of a safety cushion you store it so that the soft party specified upward.
– If in work the break becomes, it is impossible to leave a safety cushion unguarded.
– It is not necessary to disassemble the safety cushion block. With malfunction it will be replaced completely. As the pillow contains explosive, it is necessary to store it reliably. Utilization of a pillow has to be carried out HUNDRED AUDIS.
– A safety cushion check HUNDRED only in conditions. It is impossible to apply to check of a pillow a control lamp, the voltmeter or an ohmmeter at all.
– Do not subject a pillow to liquid influence, in particular, of lubricant either what – or cleaners.
