4.1.1. Antifreeze – a security measure from freezing
The engine cooling system during the whole year is filled with water mix with antifreeze and the corrosion and protective AUDI components. This mix interferes with freezing and corrosion of elements of system, and also formation of limy deposits and increases liquid boiling temperature. Owing to expansion of cooling liquid when heating in system there is excessive pressure which also promotes liquid boiling temperature increase. Pressure of liquid is limited to the safety valve, being in a cover of a broad tank which comes off with a pressure of 1.2 - 1.5 bars. Increase in a boiling point of liquid is required for reliable functioning of the cooling system of the engine. At a low temperature of boiling of liquid there can be a thermal stagnation owing to what efficiency of circulation of liquid and cooling of the engine decreases.At cars with number of the chassis to "8LVA006233" (release at the end of 1996) AUDI G11-A8C antifreeze is serially applied. G11–A8C or another with a mark "according to TL–VW 774 C" can be applied to addition of system. A sign of this antifreeze is green color.
Starting with number of the 8LVA006234 chassis, G12 antifreeze is serially applied. G12 or other antifreeze with a mark "according to TL-VW 774 D" can be applied to addition of system. A sign is red color.

In our latitudes protection against freezing have to be provided up to the temperature of -25 °C, up to -35 °C better. The share of antifreeze cannot exceed 60% (protection to –40 °C). Otherwise degree of protection decreases and cooling of the engine worsens.
