2.23. Replacement of brake fluid

The required special tool:

– A cap key for an otvorachivaniye of the union of removal of air.
– A transparent plastic hose with an internal diameter of 6 mm and capacity for collecting brake fluid.


ATTENTION

Repeatedly do not apply the brake fluid which was in the use.

Observe precautionary measures during the work with brake fluid, at the same time address subsection Brake fluid.


Brake fluid through a time of brake hoses and an air vent of the tank absorbs moisture. Thereof liquid boiling temperature in use decreases. At big load of brakes it can lead even to steam formation that reduces efficiency of action of brakes.

Brake fluid owes each 2 years, it is desirable in the spring, to be replaced with new. At the frequent movement in the mountain area, liquid needs to be replaced more often.

On HUNDRED air from the brake system, as a rule, is removed on the special device. However it can be done also without use of the specified device. At the same time the brake system is pumped over by a brake pedal. For this purpose participation of the assistant is required.


ATTENTION

If in the course of removal of air from the brake system liquid level sharply decreases, then there is a suction of the air getting to the pump ABS. In this case removal of air needs to be made on HUNDRED with use of the special device. When replacing any brake hose air needs also to be removed from system on HUNDRED. Until it is made, it is impossible to use the car.


Sequence of removal of air:

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. The support is back right
2. The support is back left
3. The support is forward right
4. The support is forward left

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Mark a felt-tip pen the level of brake fluid on the tank. After replacement of liquid restore the previous level. Thus, overflow of system will be excluded by liquid when replacing brake shoes.
2. Turn off a stopper of the tank of brake fluid.

ATTENTION

It is not possible to suck away brake fluid from the tank by means of one bottle as in a jellied branch pipe there is rigidly built in grid.


3. Cars with RKPP: As the drive of coupling uses brake fluid, remove air from the coupling drive, at the same time address the subsection Removal of Air from a coupling drive hydraulic system.

ATTENTION

During removal of air from the working cylinder of the drive of coupling not less than 100 cm3 (0.1 l) of brake fluid have to be extorted to replace liquid with new.


4. Fill the tank with new brake fluid to the mark MAX.
5. Carefully open unions for removal of air, without unscrewing them. It is recommended unions in 2 hours prior to removal of air to spray means for removal of a rust. If unions do not turn away, it is recommended to execute this operation on HUNDRED.
6. Put on a pure transparent hose the union of the right back support and substitute the corresponding capacity. For a possibility of access to the union it is necessary either to remove a wheel or to lift the car or to establish it over a viewing hole.
7. Establish RKPP in neutral situation, tighten the parking brake. Start the engine and let's it work on single turns.
8. Ask the assistant to press several times a brake pedal, having created pressure in system. Hold a pedal of pressed. A cap key 1 open the union for removal of air on the right back support. Close the union when the pedal rests against a floor. Remove a leg from a pedal.
9. Cars with RKPP: At the working engine extort brake fluid until it in the tank does not reach the level of a connecting branch pipe of the drive of coupling (shooter). Do not allow big decrease in level of liquid, otherwise via the tank air can get to system. Surely add only new liquid in system.
10. Close the union.
11. Cars with RKPP: As the drive of coupling uses brake fluid, remove air from the drive, at the same time address the subsection Removal of Air from a coupling drive hydraulic system.

ATTENTION

For replacement of brake fluid in the coupling drive from a hydraulic cylinder of the drive it is necessary to pump out not less than 100 cm3 (0.1 l).


12. Fill the tank with new brake fluid to the mark MAX.
13. Pump out old brake fluid from other supports in the sequence – back right, back left, forward right, forward left.

ATTENTION

The flowing-down brake fluid has to be pure and not contain vials of air. From each support about 250 cm3 of liquid have to be pumped out.


14. Press a brake pedal and check a free wheeling. It should not exceed 1/3 courses of a pedal.
15. Fill in brake fluid in the tank to earlier existing level.
16. Screw a stopper on the tank.
Attention, carry out reliability inspection:

– Whether brake pipelines and hoses are fixed?
– Whether there are brake hoses in holders?
– Whether unions of removal of air are tightened?
– Whether enough liquid is filled in in system?
17. On the working engine check tightness of system. For this purpose press about 10 times a brake pedal with effort of 200 - 300 N (there correspond 20 – 30 kg). The pedal of a brake should not leave back. Check all connections for tightness.
18. In conclusion check action of brakes on the road with not heavy traffic of transport. For this purpose it is necessary to make not less than one strong braking, having checked ABS action (a sign of work of ABS the brake pedal pulsation when braking is).

ATTENTION

You watch the transport going following your car. The effect of action of ABS is best of all shown on the unpaved road.

It is not necessary to pour out brake fluid together with household waste or somewhere to other place. Local authorities have to inform on collection points for brake fluid.
